Everest Trek Via Jiri
Everest Trek Via Jiri This is the best way to do an Everest trek following the way of the old approach route followed by Everest expeditions from the 1950. It provides a good opportunity to see the densely populated middle hills and the high altitude magnificence of the Everest region.
This trek starts from Jiri (1905m). The trail heads eastward through the forested hills of Soul and over the 3530m Lamajura Pass. Monasteries and continuous mountain views lie ahead. The portion of the trek from Jiri to Lukla is often uncrowned and therefore much better trekking country. We cross the Lamjura La, and Thaksindo before descending towards the raging river of the Dudh Kosi. We follow the “Dudh Koshi river” north through terraced hillsides and small villages to join the main Everest trail below Lukla. By now you will have had time to adjust to life on the trail and with the benefits of increased fitness make the ascent to Namche Bazaar. Once in the Khumbu region the mountain views improve with every step-Kwangde,Thamserku, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam. From Namche the trek follows the Gokyo lake to Everest Base Camp crossing 5330m. Cho La Pass, and then flies out from Lukla.
